Create Aberdeen has won a public vote to secure £43,052 of National Lottery funding as part of this year’s The People’s Projects. The money was awarded after the Active Lives, Creative Minds campaign won the public over with their plans to run therapeutic activities for adults with Learning Disabilities.
Winning this competition will allow Create to set up a Makaton choir for adults with learning disabilities. The sessions will use this language programme which uses signs and symbols in place of speech to bring people together to enjoy music, singing, dancing and performing. We will also be able to set up a variety of new activities including beauty and massage, rebound therapy, gardening, music therapy, outdoor sports and much much more!
The Aberdeen-based project was one of five groups in STV North to compete for a share of a life changing £3 million. Each of the groups had their projects featured on prime time TV, giving the public a chance to see their fantastic work and then make the tough choice of where the money should go.
Corinne Brands, Finance Manager at Create Aberdeen said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have taken part in The People’s Projects this year. It is has been a huge platform for us to raise awareness of the work we do, and we can’t thank the public enough for getting behind us and giving us the opportunity to make our community a better place for all. This funding will enable us to provide a huge choice and range of activities for people with learning disabilities in Aberdeen.”
The People’s Projects has awarded around £45 million to over 1,000 good causes across the UK since it started in 2005.
